Comedy Juggling Duo In Capable Hands is Broadway Bound!

The comedy juggling duo In Capable Hands is Broadway bound! Steve Russell and Kobi Shaw have been selected to be part of the famed New York Comedy Festival. As finalists in the WQXR Classical Comedy Contest, the duo will perform in November at Caroline’s On Broadway, America’s Premiere Comedy Nightclub located in the heart of Times Square.
WQXR is New York City’s Classical Public Radio station. The contest called for people who combine comedy with classical music. Videos from all over the world were submitted with the hope of being chosen for a coveted spot among the finalists.

How do two jugglers from Wisconsin end up in a classical music contest? Russell and Shaw actually offered up multiple comedy routines in their submission. For many years, they’ve featured a scarf juggling ballet set to the music of the Nutcracker Suite. In another routine, Steve plays The Carol of the Bells with tuned desk bells attached to his body. Russell and Shaw also perform the William Tell Overture by whacking each other over the head with musical plastic tubes. This particular piece has garnered them national attention before. They’ve performed it on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno as well as on Live With Regis and Kelly.

While being featured in the 2011 NY Comedy Festival is a prize itself, the competition will continue on stage at Caroline’s. WQXR will provide a panel of celebrity judges including comedian Robert Klein, Peter Schickele (aka PDQ Bach), IMG Artists’ Charles Hamlen, and opera star Deborah Voigt. The live show will be aired on public radio as well as filmed for PBS.
