How to Book a Comedian for a Corporate Event
Booking live comedy for a conference, annual gala, or holiday party brings an incredible spark of energy to the room. However, corporate comedy requires a distinct level of care. Unlike comedy club performers whose material often relies on uncensored adult themes and inappropriate language, corporate comedians deliver clean, highly relatable humor using observational humor for everyday people.
At G.L. Berg Entertainment, we’ve spent decades helping corporate event planners navigate this process. Here is what you need to know to ensure your event is a complete success.
1. Determine Your Comfort Level & Content Rating
Before starting your search, define your organization’s comfort level with humor. Most corporate events require PG/PG-13 material. Be explicit about off-limits topics—such as internal company politics or industry sensitivities.
How G.L. Berg Entertainment Operates: We pre-screen and vet every comedian on our roster long before they ever get recommended for your event. When you work with our team, we match you with artists who already have a proven track record of delivering clean, hilarious, and corporate-safe material.
2. Evaluate Room Setup and Technical Layout
Comedy relies heavily on intimacy and non-verbal delivery. A poorly arranged room can undermine even a world-class performance:
Sightlines: The performer should be located on an elevated stage so all attendees can clearly see facial expressions.
Proximity: Avoid leaving a large empty dance floor between the stage and the front row. Bring tables as close to the stage as possible to build a cozy, connected atmosphere.
Lighting and Sound: Lighting, while not always necessary, adds a professional element to most settings. It tells the audience there is a show happening and where to focus their energy. Lights should focus brightly on the performer while house lights are dimmed. Microphones (hardwire or cordless) should be hand-held or on a stand. Lapel and podium mics do not work well for stand-up comedy. Sound system volume levels should be set to ensure that everyone in the room can clearly hear the show.
3. Partner with G.L. Berg Entertainment
Directly reaching out to unvetted performers or attempting to navigate booking independent performers carries real risks—ranging from contract ambiguities and arrival delays to inappropriate content on stage.
Working with G.L. Berg Entertainment eliminates that guesswork. From initial talent selection and custom contract execution to rider coordination and day-of support, our team handles the logistics so you can sit back and enjoy the show alongside your guests.
