  • Duke Otherwise | G.L. Berg Entertainment

Children's Music & Stories Duke Otherwise Children's Music & Stories Download Media Kit [object Object] Using his clever songs and unique showmanship, Duke Otherwise effortlessly engages and inspires children (and adults) of all ages. From Madison, WI, he has been entertaining for many years with his guitar, tap shoes and distinct singing voice. His original songs will make you laugh, clap, dance and interact. Duke has performed all across the country, with some international touring as well; challenging his audiences to think outside the box with him while singing some of the wittiest and most fun tunes ever heard in a room full of kids! For The Holidays: "Ebenezer Duke" is a mini-musical, a 45-minute re-telling of "A Christmas Carol" told through original songs, storytelling/acting, dance, and audience participation. It's great for all ages and especially for families looking to do something fun and festive together during the holiday season. >> Career Highlights Duke Otherwise might not be Noah Riemer's real name, but this slightly of-kilter stage character Mr. Riemer has developed is very real to his audience members. His zany show features his clever and thoughtfully composed original songs, wild dancing, and storytelling which all highlight his of beat sense of humoroft times catching children and adults unawares. Performing family shows is Duke's forte'. "It's a delight to scan the crowd," says the Duke, "and see the children in uproar and really enjoying themselves. But it's just as gratifying to see the adults reacting the same way and the beautiful camaraderie between them and the kids. I love it when I see them exchange glances and smiles after a funny lyric or an unexpected twist in the song." Although Riemer began performing very early on as a child, putting on plays with his sisters and charging Grandpa and Grandma 50 cents to get into the shows, the realization that he had the potential to mesmerize a crowd came in high school when he was the unofficial halftime dance show at all the basketball games. After high school, Noah started the nationally touring folk band, Ticklepenny Corner. Being the primary songwriter in the band, the tunes were wry and clever and won many critics' hearts. They saw moderate success and were able to share the stage with the likes of Andrew Bird, Victoria Williams, Over the Rhine and GRAMMY-winner Ashley Cleveland, among many others. Their hard work landed them a deal with Fundamental Records (Camper van Beethoven). After all the members - but Riemer - were getting married and having babies, the group disbanded, which eventually led him to a wonderful discovery: children's music! "There has been nothing more rewarding to me in music than playing for children. When a room is filled with intrigued kids dancing and laughing, I thank God for this job I have!" Riemer began performing at schools, festivals and wherever kids congregated and was growing more passionate by the gig. Eventually, House of Mercy Recordings in St. Paul, MN took notice and offered a deal to Mr. Otherwise. The result was his debut album, "Creepy Crawly Love," of which NPR's Stefan Shepherd wrote "nifty, brainy lyrics...in a musical packaging that's like a slightly peppier Tom Waits. Definitely recommended." Recent Performances Cedar Cultural Center - Minneapolis, MN High Noon Saloon - Madison, WI Chicago Botanical Garden - Chicago, IL Minnesota Public Radio's Rock the Cradle - Minneapolis, MN Music in the Park - Plymouth, MI Madison Public Library - Madison, WI International School - Walvis Bay, Namibia Schaumburg Township Library - Schaumburg, IL Lakeside Resort - Lakeside, OH Unity Music Festival - Muskegon, MI Morton Arboretum - Lisle, IL Rhythm & Words Festival - Burnsville, MN >> Testimonials "Nifty, brainy lyrics - Definitely recommended." -Stefan Shepherd, NPR Childrens Music Reviewer, Zooglobble.com "The real sign that Duke is having an impact is to hear the students roaming the halls singing the songs and talking about the lessons inherent in them." -Principal, Nashotah, WI "I appreciate the fact that [your songs] are easy for children to relate to, but not dumbed down. You definitely have 2 new fans." -Jennifer, Mom, Dubuque, IA "Because of your song, I learned to love eating Brussels sprouts!" -Boy, 7, Racine, WI "The album will most tickle the fancies of kids ages 5 through 9. Clocking in at about 32 minutes in length, the twelve tracks breeze by. I am all for a broad range of kids music - straight-ahead celebratory pop, songs that explore emotional depths, and even though I don't always talk about it, even music that helps literally learn things. But part of that should also include imagination and skewed viewpoints that take the young listener out of the everyday. Beehives and Bedheads does that nearly perfectly. Highly recommended." -zooglobble.com/blog >> Basic Set-Up Needs >> Sample Introduction >> Pricing Information Pricing for each act varies depending on a number of factors including: location of the event; popularity of the date; routing for each act; type of event; single or multiple day performances; length of show, etc. To get a specific and accurate quote for your event please contact our office by completing the form below or calling (612) 361-6002. Jazz George Maurer Trio Jazz Download Media Kit [object Object] Three instruments and the musicians who play them. That's all you really need to stage an evening of fun with the George Maurer Trio. The George Maurer Trio knows how to jazz up a small space with a big sound - or a not-so-big sound, if that's what the occasion calls for. These experienced musicians are versatile, adaptable and utterly unflappable. The trio adds a bit of class to any venue and puts their jazz-infused touch on virtually every musical style, with George's piano leading the way. They're at their best covering American swing and pop but are happy to have their way with everything from Gershwin to the Beatles. Adept at making themselves comfortable in unique performance settings, they have gigged on the swaying decks of riverboats and in steamy park band shells, held down big concert halls and tucked themselves into ballroom corners at wedding receptions. Regardless, they'll perform with ease, style and smiles. >> Career Highlights George Maurer is best known as one of Minnesota's premier jazz pianists, but his musical collaborations have taken him around the globe as a performer, arranger and composer. He has shared the stage with Eric Clapton, arranged music for the Chiffons and written two original scores for the Saint Paul City Ballet. George put his skills to work in spring 2011 as he worked on the world-class Minnesota Orchestra's "'80s Rewind!" show co-arranging four songs, leading the band, directing the vocalists and playing keyboards for shows at Minneapolis's Orchestra Hall and with the Florida Symphony. His repertoire includes indie movie soundtracks, 15 CDs, arrangements for everyone from gospel choirs to rock icons and an always-full itinerary of George Maurer Trio, Group and Variety Group performances. He has developed a well-traveled pop side gigging around the country with bands like the Crickets and pop star Bobby Vee. He music directed, arranged and performed at a Buddy Holly tribute at the House of Blues on L.A.'s Sunset Strip, where he worked with rock legends like Clapton. No stranger to the theatrical stage, George has performed and music directed a long list of shows, including "RENT" and the Chanhassen Dinner Theaters' "Altar Boyz" and "Swing!" PALM, ORLANDO SENTINEL :: ORLANDO FRINGE 2016 “My 11-year-old leaned over and said, ‘These people are really talented.’ She totally refused to see this show, but I dragged her. Afterwards, she couldn’t stop talking about it.” — DESDAMONA RACHELI, AUDIENCE REVIEW :: MINNESOTA FRINGE 2015 “Their musicianship would be impressive if they just stood still and stared at their music stands and their acrobatics would impress if they never saw an instrument, but together they make stage magic.” — CARL F. GAUZE, ARCHIKULTURE DIGEST :: ORLANDO FRINGE 2015 “Fruit Flies Like a Banana is a musical happy place. It’s full of joy and love and passion that never, ever takes itself seriously. If you think you don’t like classical music, go. If you think you do like classical music, seriously go. This is simply, Fringe at its best. Don’t miss it.” — ALLISON CARTER, INDYFRINGE TALK :: INDYFRINGE 2014 “Bottom line: If you don’t smile during this show, you have no soul.” — JUSTIN BRADY, MISSION INTRIGUE INDY :: INDYFRINGE 2013 >> Basic Set-Up Needs STAGE: 30 feet wide x 20 feet deep with at least 12 feet overhead, though larger and/or taller is fine. Minimum stage space is 20 feet wide x 16 feet deep with 10 feet overhead, allowing for a full-length show with some repertoire adjustments to accommodate reduced stage size. Stage surface must be smooth, flat, and free of protruding objects, obstructive cracks, holes, splinters, etc. Portable platform stages are acceptable, provided assembly is level and sturdy. Marley flooring is not required, but the stage must be appropriate for dance and for objects on wheels, such as a vibraphone and hoverboards. Direct access into the house from the stage is requested, enabling performers to go back and forth from the stage to the house with ease during the show. LIGHTING: General illumination Optional lighting elements which can greatly enhance the performance include: Warm and Cool Washes 3-Color Cyc Multicolored lights with manual bump or chase effect Dimmable House Lights Center Special [See attached plan for sample lighting guidelines.] SOUND: Ability to play recorded music pre- and post-show from tech booth. Wireless headset microphones or overhead chorus miking that covers the stage as deemed necessary by the venue. Amplification is generally unnecessary in theaters under 300 seats. If the venue always uses microphones for speaking from the stage, The Fourth Wall will require either 3 headset microphones with wireless transmitters and receivers (one per performer) or overhead chorus miking of the stage. During the show, all music is performed live on acoustic instruments (flute, bass trombone, percussion, and accordion). BACKLINE: We usually travel with our own equipment, but if backline is required, performances may use the following: Vibraphone (3 octaves F-F with graduated bars similar to Musser M55 or Yamaha YV-3710) Small drum set (kick with pedal; snare with stand; 1 rack tom with stand; hi-hats with stand, cymbals, and clutch; crash cymbal with stand; drum throne) Euphonium All other instruments (flutes, bass trombone, accordion, boomwhackers) will always be provided by The Fourth Wall. >> Sample Introduction Fruit Flies Like a Banana generally starts with a fade to black, then The Fourth Wall enters on hoverboards from the wings or some other hidden, off-stage space, so no introduction is necessary other than any land acknowledgement, donor thank yous, or other housekeeping that the venue likes to give before a show. That said, here are a few words you could use to introduce the show: “Not many musical groups get called out for their ‘deft choreography’ by The Wall Street Journal, but The Fourth Wall is far from your average music group. Get ready to be delighted, surprised, soothed, and wowed by their artistic antics. Please welcome, The Fourth Wall with Fruit Flies Like a Banana!” >> Pricing Information Pricing for each act varies depending on a number of factors including: location of the event; popularity of the date; routing for each act; type of event; single or multiple day performances; length of show, etc. To get a specific and accurate quote for your event please contact our office by completing the form below or calling (612) 361-6002. I would definitely recommend Steve Russell to anyone looking for an entertainer that can be hilarious and send a good message at the same time. I know I will be using Steve again in the future.” –Belle Plaine Police Department “The Kiwanis of New Richmond hired Steve October 2011 for our annual fundraising banquet. He worked as the primary entertainer and MC for the night. As chair person of the event he was absolutely wonderful to work with. What a professional!
